Celastrus orbiculatus is a woody vine of the family Celastraceae. Bittersweet nightshade belongs to the nightshade family, which is known for being poisonous. American bittersweet is the only species of Celastrus native to North America. Additional names for this plant include Bittersweet, Climbing Bittersweet, False Bittersweet, Oriental Bittersweet, Shrubby Bittersweet, and Waxwork.
